Local character who tells the same story over and over about a swan that climbs onto his lap at night.
Wellhead, Burton-by-Lincoln, Lincolnshire
Two miles north of Lincoln just below the Lincoln Ridge is the little spring line village of Burton-by-Lincoln. The area has been inhabited since time immemorial because of the source of fresh water from the spring which it is said has never been known to run dry. In around 200AD a Roman Villa was sited here for just this reason.
There are two wellheads in the village from which water can be drawn. This one, half way down the escarpment, at the entrance of the drive to the Church, bears a simple engraved stone plaque with the letter "M" (*) and the date 1860.

An intricate model of a Portuguese Man-of-War (Physalia arethusa)
The 'float' is about 55mm wide by 90mm long. Total height: 240mm. There are about two hundred tentacles made of thin coloured glass, supported and attached by fine copper wires.
